Friday September 18th

The children are really settling in as we complete our 2nd full week back in school and it is a privilege to see them learning and laughing with such a positive attitude! I would like to publicly thank all the amazing staff for ensuring that the safety and well-being of our pupils remains the number one priority. Diolch!

Learning and Laughing

Topics have begun in class and the enthusiasm shown by the children is a pleasure to see. From ‘Once upon a time’ to ‘WWII’ and ‘Hail Caesar’ the children have loved having an input into their own learning and planning the term ahead. For more details, visit the class pages on our website.

Can  my child come to school?

Please see the following guidance produced by the City and County of Swansea! If you have any doubt about your child’s health, you should contact 111 for advice.

Can my child come to school?

Thank you

Thanks to parents and families for your support and co-operation, particularly at drop off and pick up times. We will continue to review our risk assessments but this system is going to be here for a while and it won’t work without everyone’s support.

If you have any concerns, queries or feedback please contact the school or Mr Evans directly.

Have a great weekend!

Latest Update

September 11th 2020

Our first full week back has come and gone! Firstly a huge thank you to all staff, parents and, most importantly, children for making our return to school so enjoyable. It has been a pleasure chatting with the children as well as listening to the enthusiasm, learning and laughter coming from every room!

We have welcomed back our youngest pupils from Reception and Nursery this week and staff are thoroughly enjoying getting to know each of their unique characters. They are in for a year full of fun!

Drop off / Pick Up

Reception will be entering and exiting school during the 8.40 – 8.55 and 15.10 -15.25 windows from Monday. The one-way system and timings we have put in place aim to cause as little disruption to your day as possible, whilst ensuring as safe as possible entry and exit of the school grounds. For the system to work it is essential that:

  • Only one adult accompanies their child(ren).
  • Adults take responsibility for social distancing on school grounds.
  • Adults and children stay in the allocated lanes and leave the school grounds and adjoining roads as safely and swiftly as possible.

I appreciate school drop off and pick up times are usually a social time of the day, but in the current climate and following strict National and Local guidance, please make every effort to clear the school grounds as swiftly and safely as possible.  I thank you for your support and understanding as we work together!

Breakfast Club

Our provision for Breakfast Club has had to change in line with National and Local Guidance. We have had to set a capacity alongside a risk assessment, which means that no pupils will be able to turn up on the day. A contract must be signed, returned to school and pupils booked in. Breakfast Club will resume on Monday 14th September. We have reached our capacity and are currently fully booked. If you would like to add your name to the waiting list, please contact school. We will review the provision regularly. It is vital that no cars are driven up the school drive! Diolch!

School Dinners

School dinners will resume from Monday 14th September. Most pupils will have their meals delivered to their classroom. Please see SQUID for menus and payment.

After School Club

Unfortunately, we are unable to resume after school club on school grounds at present.

Essential Information

It is crucial that the school is contacted if:

  • You, your child or anyone in your household has a confirmed case of COVID 19/Coronavirus.
  • You, your child or anyone in your household have symptoms – a new, continuous cough and / or a high temperature/fever, loss of smell or taste.
  • You, your child or anyone in your household is in self-isolation.

Under no circumstances should a child come to school with any of the symptoms mentioned above. If a child shows symptoms during the school day they will be isolated under supervision and will need to be collected promptly.

We are all getting used to this new way of working but it is important to remember that, although face to face interaction must be limited, we are here to offer support whenever needed. If you have any concerns, queries or feedback, please contact the school or Mr Evans directly.

Have a great weekend!

Welcome Back!

It has been a pleasure to have pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 back in school. We now look forward to welcoming our youngest pupils from Nursery and Reception back next week! We should all be extremely proud of the manner in which children have adapted to the current way of life at school. Some routines may be different but the children’s attitude and ability to take it all on board, with a big smile, has been outstanding. All staff have thoroughly enjoyed meeting their new classes and, if laughter is anything to go by, you can be assured that the children have had a great return to school. Please remember that, although face to face contact has had to reduce greatly, we are on the end of the phone or an email if you have any concerns at all!

We would like to give a huge thanks to all families for the way in which you have approached the return to school. The success of our return relies on the whole school community pulling together! An example of this has been the way in which you have taken on board the new system for dropping off and picking up. Diolch! On that note, please remember that if we haven’t received a consent form, your child will not be allowed to leave school premises alone from Monday!

All pupils will be required to bring a packed lunch with them again next week. However, school dinners will resume from Monday 14th September. More information will be sent next week.

With regards to Breakfast Club and After school Club, we will keep you informed of our progress as we continue to follow guidance on how to resume safely.

Details of your child’s class routines, topics etc will be available on our school website from next week.

As always, if you have any queries or concerns, contact the school or Mr Evans directly!

Have a great weekend! See you on Monday!

Return to School in September

We await further Welsh Government guidance before confirming our re-opening strategy for September. You should have already received a letter from Swansea’s Director of Education. Our plans will then be ratified by the Governing Body before sharing with pupils, parents and staff by the end of term.  Whilst we appreciate that everyone is anxious about how schools will operate in September, we need to ensure that our Risk Assessments and operational plans adhere to both local and national guidelines.  We appreciate your continued support and understanding.

New Classes for September

We will be sending out details of your child’s new teacher later today. With regards to grouping children, we have tried to keep as many cohort groups the same as this year to avoid any anxiety. All our awesome teachers and support staff are looking forward to learning and laughing with their new classes in September. We will complete our usual transition and ice-breaking activities during September’s return to school.

Please note that year 6 pupils will find out their forms for September next week.

Annual Reports

Your child’s end of year reports will be available next week. Those pupils attending school will be bringing their reports home with them. If your child is not attending school, there are 3 options:

  1.  email the school address and we will attach your child’s report to our reply            waunarlwydd.primary@swansea-edunet.gov.uk
  2. Phone the school to arrange collection
  3. Receive your child’s report on their return in September

Remember if you have any concerns, queries or feedback you can contact us via the school phone line or email address. Alternatively, you can contact Mr Evans directly:
